Discovering the Hidden Gem of Chiang Mai – National Museum. It’s located in the Chang Phueak area of Chiang Mai. Despite its small size, the museum offers a fascinating glimpse into the rich history and culture of the North of Thailand.
As a fan of old weaponry and armor, I have visited museums all over the world, including Russia, United Kingdom, France, Hungary, Turkey, and many more. While the collection at Chiang Mai National Museum may not be as extensive as those I’ve seen elsewhere, I found it to be a unique and worthwhile experience.
The museum, opened in 1973, features a traditional Thai-style building with a rooftop in the Northern style. Visitors can explore two floors of exhibits, with the ground floor showcasing Lanna ceramics and paintings and the upper floor featuring objects related to Lanna’s ancient warfare. One particularly interesting artifact is the “Buddha Footprint” from the 15th – 16th centuries.
With a low entrance fee of only 100 Baht, and relatively few visitors, Chiang Mai National Museum is a great way to spend a few hours when you have some free time in Chiang Mai. It’s open Wednesday to Sunday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., making it easy to fit into your travel itinerary.
Overall, Chiang Mai National Museum may not be the most well-known attraction in the city, but it is definitely worth a visit for anyone interested in the history and culture of Northern Thailand. Don’t miss out on this hidden gem during your exciting travels in Chiang Mai.
