Halloween in Chiang Mai might not be as big of an event as it is in other parts of the world, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have a spooktacular time. Expats and tourists gather at bars and venues across the city for themed parties and events. In 2019, I had the chance to experience the Synergy HorrorLand Halloween party, and there were plenty of other exciting events to check out as well. In this “Halloween in Chiang Mai: Celebrating with Expats and Tourists” blog post, I’ll share my tips for finding the perfect Halloween costume in Chiang Mai and give you an inside look at the Synergy HorrorLand party.
Where to Get Halloween Costumes in Chiang Mai
If you’re looking for a Halloween costume in Chiang Mai, the DRAGON shop is your best bet. There are two DRAGON shops in the city – one in the Central Kad Suan Kaew shopping mall and the other near Thanin Market. The shop sells a wide variety of masks, costumes, and other holiday decorations, so you’re sure to find something that suits your taste and budget. Whether you’re looking for a scary costume or something a little more lighthearted, the DRAGON shop has got you covered.
In 2019, the most popular costume among Halloween-goers in Chiang Mai was the Joker from Batman DC comics. You could see various versions of the character – from the classic comic book look to the recent movie portrayal by Joaquin Phoenix. Of course, there were plenty of other creative costumes on display as well.
Synergy HorrorLand Halloween Party
One of the biggest Halloween parties in Chiang Mai is the Synergy HorrorLand event. The party was held in November at a spacious venue near the river. The ticket price was 300 Baht on the door or 200 Baht in pre-sale, which is quite affordable. The party had a separate dance floor, two bars, and several areas to chill and take in the Halloween decorations.
One of the highlights of the Synergy HorrorLand Halloween party was the costume competition. Attendees went all out with their outfits, showing off their creativity and attention to detail. While there were plenty of Jokers on display, there were also many other unique and impressive costumes that caught my eye.
While Thai people don’t typically celebrate Halloween, the event was popular among expats and tourists in Chiang Mai. If you’re visiting Thailand during the Halloween season, there’s sure to be a party or event that you can attend. However, if you’re used to huge Halloween celebrations in your home country, you might find the events in Chiang Mai to be more low-key.
Celebrating Halloween in Chiang Mai is a unique experience that’s well worth checking out if you’re in Thailand during the season. Whether you’re looking for a scary party or a more lighthearted celebration, there’s something for everyone in this city. Be sure to check out the DRAGON shop for all your costume and decoration needs, and don’t miss the chance to attend the Synergy HorrorLand Halloween party or other events across the city.
