Renting a Red Van to Reach Doi Suthep
When visiting Doi Suthep, it is common to rent a red van that can comfortably accommodate you and your friends. You can find numerous red vans parked near the Chiang Mai Zoo and Aquarium. Renting the entire van or joining a group is possible by coordinating with the driver. Once a group of 8-10 people is formed, the van will take you to Doi Suthep and back. Please be prepared to wait for around 30 minutes near the red vans, depending on the time of day and your luck. While waiting, you can indulge in coffee and snacks available at nearby coffee shops.
Doi Suthep Road
The road leading up to Doi Suthep is a winding and vertical path. The journey to the Bhubing Palace and Royal Garden can take anywhere from 30 to 45 minutes. It is advisable to carry water and snacks with you, as the van may move at a slow pace, potentially causing dizziness.
Doi Suthep in Chiang Mai: The Bhubing Palace and Royal Garden Experience
The Bhubing Palace and Royal Garden, situated at the mountain’s peak, is the first stop on the Doi Suthep trip due to its early closure. Upon arrival, you may be required to rent appropriate clothing if your attire is deemed inappropriate. As I had shorts on, I rented traditional Thai clothing, specific to the Northern region, to cover my legs. After purchasing tickets (price varies), you will have ample time to explore the magnificent Bhubing Palace and Royal Garden grounds and capture beautiful pictures. While the palace itself may not be accessible to tourists, the garden boasts an array of stunning flowers and limited views overlooking Chiang Mai.
